Custom Tea Towels!

The Soul Sisters got together for another crafty day earlier this month and learned how to make customized tea towels following Joy's instruction.

We chose a design and printed it onto the shiny side of our freezer paper that we had cut a bit smaller than a sheet of paper.  We then taped the printer paper to freezer paper. and fed it through the printer.
(If you are using letters or words - you will need to "mirror" or reverse the image or it will print backwards).

We tried it two different ways - dry and a bit damp.  The lines were more crisp and the image was darker when we very lightly sprayed the towel with water so that is was barely damp, but it worked both ways.

We then placed the printed side down onto our surface (IKEA towels) and rubbed with the back of a spoon, like this:

We had gotten control of ourselves by the time I filmed this - the first try there was lots of screaming and hooting...

We let it sit for 24 hours before washing it and after 2 weeks of washes the image is still intact!

Sports Drama - Feedback Friday

So sports parent drama is a reality for most of us with younger kids...did you ever watch Dance Mom's?  Not so far fetched!

Here is my latest question that is perfect for Feedback Friday...

What do you think of the president of a sports board assigning their spouse a board position?

Look What I Found!

Look what we found in the woods behind my house!  What should I do with it?

No, seriously...am I going to get cooties?  How do you prepare/clean something like this?  How could I make some cool decor?

Mini-Dessert Menu

I needed to make desserts for a party last month and wanted to think of things that were small so that guests could try more than one.  I came up with the following dessert menu:

Mini Dessert Menu

Oreo Truffle Pops:

*Place one package of Oreos + an 8 oz. package of softened cream cheese in food processor.
*Process until smooth.
*Roll into balls, then refrigerate 1 hour.
*Melt candy melts.
*Poke stick into top of Oreo ball, then remove stick and dip it into melted candy melts. Now place back into the hole.  This is the glue that will hold the stick in place.
*After all the sticks are anchored, dip each truffle ball into candy melts to coat.
*Dip into sprinkles then place on cookie sheet.
*Refrigerate until ready to serve.

White Chocolate Stuffed Raspberries:

*Stuff large, fresh raspberries with white and semi-sweet chips. Easy peasy!

Mini-Strawberry Shortcakes: (pictured)

**I used this recipe for Strawberry Shortcake Cake and made them tiny!

Ingredients:

Strawberries
Sugar
Pound cake
Pastry Cream
Stabilized whipped cream

Dice strawberries and sprinkle with sugar to taste.  Allow to sit at room temp. for at least an hour until nice and juicy.

Meanwhile, make some Pastry Cream (or vanilla pudding) and

Stabilized Whipped Cream :
  • 2 teaspoon unflavored gelatin
  • 8 teaspoons cold water
  • 2 cup heavy whipping cream (make sure beaters and bowl are cold, cold, cold)
  • 1/2 cup confectioner's sugar
  •
  • Dissolve gelatin into water and let stand until thick.
  •  Place in microwave for about 30 seconds and stir until dissolved. Cool.
  •  Whip the heavy cream with the sugar until soft peaks form.
  • Slowly drizzle gelatin mixture while whipping until combined.
  • Whip on high until stiff peaks form
  •
Layer pound cake, juicy strawberries, pastry cream, and stabilized whipped cream into tiny parfait cups I found at Party City - so cute!
Mini-Caramel Banana Cream Pies: (pictured)
You can whip up another mini dessert using the leftover ingredients...

Ingredients:

Bananas
Graham cracker crumbs
Pastry cream
Stabilized whipped cream
Caramel sauce

Layer cracker crumbs, pastry cream, sliced banana, caramel sauce, whipped cream.

Garnish with a slice of banana and an additional drizzle of caramel.
